Horses like Seattle Fitz (Arg) tend to slip under the radar of most analysts or breeders. A closer look at just who this horse is explains why it’s worth the time spent to get to know such horses better. Seattle Fitz is by a horse called Fitzcarraldo, who is inbred 3 x 5 to half siblings Lacydon and Sweet Caroline. This tail-female line goes on out to Composure, a half sister to Selene. Thus Fitzcarraldo is from the same family as Hyperion, *Sickle, *Pharamond II, Mossborough and Sir Tristram. Not too shabby - and useful, too, since there are multiple lines of Selene in other parts of the pedigree via Hyperion and *Sickle. The dam of Seattle Fitz is the Seattle Slew mare Hug a Slew, a sister to G3 German stakes winner El Mundhir and a three-quarter sister to Slew’s Royalty, G3 stakes placed and a useful California sire. Though she never won a stake, Hug a Slew must have looked good. She sold for $200,000 as a yearling and re-sold for $295,000 as a two-year-old. Hug a Slew has six lines of Frizette, including a 5 x 5 cross of half sisters Crepe Myrtle and Spring Beauty, the latter her fifth dam. This beautiful blood is complimented by a Frizette cross in Fitzcarraldo via Again The Law. Hug a Slew also brings in a line of *Knight’s Daughter, who find a match in her half sister Starling II in Fitzcarraldo (or Feola x2) and overall the pair combine for four Marchetta crosses via Aurora and half siblings *Ambiorix, *Source Sucree and *Perfume II. The icing on the cake is that Hug a Slew has three *La Troienne lines via Baby League x2/Bimelech. Interesting, isn’t he? But it takes a bit of time to investigate a horse like this. Sometimes - not always - but sometimes you find a gold mine. |
